Database Hierarchy COMPASS employs the commercial database, Objectivity. This OODBMS provides an instrinsic hierarchy by object oriented methodology. COMPASS consists of 32768 spatial databases based upon the hierarchical triangulation of the celestial sphere ( to "level-6") proposed by Szalay et.al, with each database corresponding to an Objectivity ooDBObj class. The underlying containment objects are designed to maintain the complex plate-to spatial region relationships for performing global sky astrometric and photometric calibrations.
