Overview of CASB Phase 2 Software
The primary task of CASB is to provide images and confirmation
charts to PRESTO staff for approved HST fixed target observations.
Automatic Processing
To automate this procedure, there are two special purpose
accounts on the CASB cluster (ANONYMOUS_PC and PHASE2). The PRESTO staff
use the anonymous_pc account to place their request files into a specific
directory DISK$WORLD:[PHASE2.REQUESTS]. The other account has a daemon process
(process ID is "Phase2 Daemon" which gets run as a detached process
on system boot. This process checks the request directory every 5 minutes
for new files. Upon receipt of a request it will run GETPLATE to determine
which images to retrieve and then use PLS_GETIMAGE to access these images
from the CDROM jukebox. These FITS files are then processed with XSPAM to
produce a confirmation chart which is sent to a printer along with an e-mail
message to the requesting program coordinator. Finally these data are moved
into DISK$WORLD:[PHASE2.PROPOSALS.nnnn] which is nfs mounted to ftp.stsci.edu
as /observer/phase2_finder_charts/ and so available to PCs and GOs.
Startup Procedure
In the event that the daemon process is not running,
it may be started using the command on PIXELA
@DISK$WORLD:[PHASE2.TOOLS]START_PHASE2_SERVER devicename
where devicename= JB1 (PixelA Jukebox) or JB2 (Archive Jukebox)
A log file is available in DISK$WORLD:[PHASE2.REQUESTS]PHASE2_DAEMON.LOG
