CASB Report
December, 2001
·
Completed construction
of an astrometric mask from the POSS Quick V plate solution residuals.
·
Several CASB members
plan to attend the 199th AAS Meeting in Washington, January 6-10.
·
R. White and V. Laidler
prepared a poster for presentation at the January AAS Meeting: "GSC2.2 vs
SDSS EDR: Astrometry, Photometry, and Classification."
· Antonio Volpicelli started comparison of Objectivity and MS SQLserver for GALEX/GSC-II
·
McLean and Greene continued supporting SDSS planning
activities.
· Reviewed 7 new Guide Star Problem Reports (GSPRs) this period. Three of these were fine lock failures. The other GSPRs documented the following failures: coarse track failure because the GS was fainter than the FGS threshold; search failure because the GS was a misclassified galaxy; two other GSs that were blends of wide pairs, causing acquisition problems. Filed a Bad GS Alert for each of the GSs.
· Continued planning to port the GetImage software to the Windows NT server.
· Obtaining statistics from the log files concerning how often the webserver has been visited and, more specifically, how often the new GSC2 is being accessed.
· Occasionally answering questions from the APT team about the Bright Object Tool.
· Draft HUGS2 report distributed for comments.
· Scanning UKST-IR plates from the current ROE shipment.
· In early December GAMMA2 developed a problem with shearing between forward and reverse sweeps. Attempted to correct the problem, but have not succeeded. Performed no production scans on GAMMA2 throughout most of the period.
· GAMMA1 scans are marginally within tolerances.
·
Continued
compressing scans of the POSSII-N and UKST-IR surveys.
· Completed migration of the 1st 500 CDROMs in the jukebox to the RaidTec NFS raidarray. All of the images of the DQVS & DSS1 surveys have been migrated as well as the first 359 volumes of the XDSS red surveys. This represents about 300 GB of data.
· A new load of 500 CDROMs is being readied for loading in the jukebox to continue copying.
· Worked on two archive help desk requests for help/information.
· Continued low-level rationalization of MOD archive.
·
Continued processing
POSS Quick V plates.
·
Completed construction
of an astrometric mask from the POSS-I Quick V plate solution residuals.
CALIBRATIONS: Photometry (GSPC-II and DSS-I and -II)
· J. Garcia completed the December CTIO 0.9 m observing run.
