The CASB plate vault contains approximately 3500 plates that are either owned by STScI, or reside in our facility on longterm loan. An additional 4500 original PSS-II and SES plates have passed through our facility for scanning since 1995. Our collection also includes a number of films and prints, and the transparent Dixon overlays for the POSS-I.
For plate safety, access to the plates is restricted to trained CASB plate handlers. Access to the digitized pixels for most of these plates is available as part of the Digitized Sky Survey (DSS).
